Which biblical animals talked

What business do we have with each other, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are— the Holy One of God! If a demon, unclean spirit, or evil angel can speak through a person whom they possess, can they speak through an animal?

Demons or unclean spirits still speak through people today. This is a common occurrence. However, there are many false mediums today who pretend to communicate with the dead. Evil spirits have always been capable of speaking through people. So did God want him to go or not? I think the talking donkey provided the answer! I won't go into the question how I can believe that a donkey can talk. I think the answer is similar to believing in any miracle.

The article " Balaam and the Donkey " showed me these interesting points: Balaam knew God and carried out his commands, but he was an evil man, driven by money rather than love of God. The angel threatened Balaam because Balaam was obeying God in his actions, but in his heart he was rebelling, thinking only of the bribe. The "oracles" of Balaam in Numbers correspond to the blessings God promised to Abraham: Israel will be as numerous as the dust of the earth; the Lord is with Israel; Israel will inherit the promised land; Israel will crush Moab, and from the Jews will come a Messiah.

Numbers reveals that Balaam enticed the Israelites to turn from God and worship idols. The fact that the angel asked Balaam the same question as the donkey indicates that the Lord was speaking through the donkey. They are known to have eaten whales. But note, according to the evolutionary scheme, they went extinct long before humans made their supposed evolutionary debut. These would preclude even a fish that would seem large enough to swallow Jonah whole. And note even large plankton eating whales like the massive blue whale were ruled out by Burgess due to the sieve like mechanism they have built in to catch the plankton they feed on.

So they too are ruled out as possibilities. So the question still lingers: what are we to make of the account of Jonah? Some interpreters want to turn it into an allegory or metaphor, pointing out that between the 21st and the 24th of December, the nights are the darkest. During those days a huge constellation — Cetus — imagined to be a mythical sea monster was visible.

The problem with that interpretation is:. So we can safely reject the metaphor suggestion. The survival of Jonah in the fish is an unannounced miracle. One arrives at the conclusion that it is a work of God that supersedes the natural order based on the evidence. What happens defies the laws of nature. And God is involved.

Sometimes the conclusion that a miracle has happened is drawn for us in scripture. Let me give you some examples: Explicit Miracles — Conclusion drawn in scripture. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. John 2. Implicit Miracles — Conclusion left to the Reader.

Two more examples:. And Judas the traitor was standing there with them. John What could make a detachment of soldiers John But something happened. Something miraculous. I suspect it has something to do with the revelation of the name of God by the son of God. Whatever happened, the reader is left to draw the conclusion: something miraculous happened here.

I have previously in another article made the case that the powerful evidence of miracles is for believers not mockers and unbelievers. When asked by the unbelieving Pharisees and teachers of the law for a sign, Jesus said they would get only one: The sign of Jonah- a reference to the resurrection. He did so by saying,. So Jesus indicates that what happened to Jonah foreshadows what will happen to him. What happened to Jesus was a miraculous event.

Thus what happened to Jonah must also have been a miraculous event. Jesus died and came back to life. Jonah was kept alive — kept from dying in a miraculous fashion.
