When is daddy yankee prestige coming out
I tried. Honestly, no one believed in the music, period. I need you to distribute my product and put me everywhere. That taught me to always stay in touch with the streets.
But here in Puerto Rico, I mingle with people, I go to the beach, I see how they consume music, I pay attention, and it allows me to create. Early in your career, before you made your own albums, you recorded mixtapes and compilations. Did you cede those masters? At that point I did, because we had no sense of the music industry.
When I put out Elcangri. I made the investment, and everything else was for me. Prior to [ Barrio Fino ], everything was verbal agreements, handshakes, song exchanges. Now, everything requires a contract [and monetary compensation]. Barrio Fino changed not only the culture, but the business model. But on the other, it was a new model in which you kept your master recordings — correct?
If no one wants to sign a talented kid today, he records himself, produces himself, writes the songs and engineers the album. He creates his own opportunities. I had to create my own opportunities and it became part of my DNA. You built your career performing. Today, some new acts have hundreds of millions of streams before they ever perform live And in music, you have to take the stairs to navigate the highs and the lows. They worked, they learned how to use Pro Tools and they exploded.
So when they hit that hard patch, which happens to all of us, how will they work through that? Music is what will speak for you and what will really connect with your audience. Neither does Facebook, Twitter or TikTok. YouTube pays me. And Spotify and Apple. Those are my allies. I release music, I give you content and your platform grows — but so does mine. Is that true? This is a hard topic to broach with artists, because they often know so little about the music business.
So, is the master yours? You want to collaborate with me? I saw it as a song that was important for the genre. Cultural vision is what has allowed me to take a big-picture approach versus simply focusing on the hit. In the past few years, Raphy Pina has stepped in as a partner. He helps Mireddys with the management, but I never had a manager per se. Now they do. I got invited to Coachella [years ago], for example, and the pay was ridiculous. What role did you play in that?
I like to say I took the bullets. I wanted people to understand my essence, where I come from, what I represent. But at the same time, I wanted to take my culture to the very top. I had to take the culture with me everywhere so it became permanent instead of fizzling out like other genres where artists simply promote themselves. Your current album falls under your longtime Universal distribution deal.
They have the power of their catalog, of hundreds of artists, and platforms need that content. A person like myself, who has leverage, can close deals directly with all the platforms and make more money. All of them. Ozuna is a hard worker. I like what Rauw [Alejandro] and Sech are doing. I love what Karol is doing.
What challenges still need to be overcome? Paradoxically, the advantage and disadvantage is the same: We have the opportunity to be on one-on-one terms with fans, but fans consume you. They demand so much that the challenge artists have today is: How long can I last? We [older acts] had the opportunity to create lifelong fans — not only me, but rock bands, balladeers and salseros who fill stadiums.
Now that it has become so big, is there any danger of the genre becoming disposable? No, no. I understand global music, but our roots are really important.
Right now, there are so many colors to choose from in our music. Read more. Report as inappropriate. Daddy Yankee is a brilliant rapper with some mad skills and an endless influx of energy. Daddy Yankee has enjoyed great success in both the Latin music scene and American. Although he is far from a household name in the UK, he is massive in his native Puerto Rico, carving and shaping the reggaeton scene in the country.
His incredible home success is evident from the way he holds himself on stage: he oozes self confidence and charisma on stage, owning the stage in a way that masks his endless array of backing dancers as almost invisible. He played an array of styles, from party tracks to emotional tunes.
The impressive pyrotechnics, backing band and light show that accompanied his performance all really added to the spectacle. The energy in which he conducts his live show though could turn even the most skeptical reveller to an avid fan. As the reggae beats of 'Gasolina' initiate the show, Daddy Yankee practically explodes onto the stage and does a quick circuit during the first verse to make sure the whole crowd are energised and enthusiastic.
He blends tracks together, freestyles acapella and battles with his frontman throughout to keep the crowd jumping and cheering along.
The whole crowd enjoys his international hit 'Rompe' and the singalong makes Yankee jump higher and higher before it looks like security will have to force him to leave the stage as he would have performed all evening. Daddy Yankee is probably the best show i've ever gone to see. He is a crazy talented entertainer, and puts on the best show. I've been a fan since Barrio Fino, so seeing him for the first time last night made my dreams come true and he definitely did not disappoint.
Worth every penny. Don't debate going to see The Big Boss, just do it! Loved The Kindom Tour Concert. It was awesome. Totally worth my money. Would definitely see Daddy Yankee again. Loved his performance.
His show was a good amount of time. Not to short. Sang a good amount of songs. Loved that La Mega hosted the show. I love Daddy Yankee and think he is great at what he does. Always wanted to see him live and let me tell you: he is really THAT good. Great night, amazing live performance , that is worth spending money for! See all videos 2. See all photos 6.
