What makes bov flutter

A BOV venting to atmo won't hurt anything It is illegal so if a cop wanted to be a pain you can be defected The only annoying thing about BOV sound is when people have them adjusted and they make noise even on the lightest boost and throttle closures Turbo flutter which is caused by the opposite of venting air, not venting, causing trapped boosted air to rush back past the turbo making a fluttering sound, can technically accelerate wear, but only in high boost Last edited by fauxpas ; , PM.

Not 'one at a time' persay, you can just adjust it to alternate between one or the other depending on your mood. If I back right off the throttle i still get the normal psshhh sound. I hope this explains it. If anyone wants a presentation, just ask.. I'll take you for a quick spin. By the way..

One of my previous cars was a 4wd Ford laser Tx3. The BOV was taken out and the wholes blocked off. My point is that I had no problems with the turbo on that car.. There were hundreds of other issues but not Turbo.

I am not recommending you go out and take your BOV off.. Just sharing some experience. SilverSlyder Posted August 2, Posted August 2, TTT Posted August 2, I don't have the writen proof but I can see why people say that there will be more lag.

Think about it.. Thanks GTST. That's pretty much what i was told. Guest barneyrubble Posted August 2, Learning something new every day. Posted August 6, TTT Posted August 6, So it's not your BOV making the fluttering noise.

Posted August 7, Just my thoughts I hate the ppsshhh and want the shutter TTT Posted August 7, Create an account or sign in to comment You need to be a member in order to leave a comment Create an account Sign up for a new account in our community. I just bought a greddy type s bov and it sounds to me that its fluttering i know i adjust the screw up top but i dont know do i soften it or tighten it Sort by date Sort by votes. Upvote 0. Then tigten the bolt. The bov should sound crisp when set right. If its fluttering its set to soft, which usually causes surge to the turbo.

So you might wanna tighten it. Click to expand Well, when I got my headers put on, for the first 2 days or so, there was a pretty bad smell coming off and I talked to the garage that put them on, he said that it's just cause they're new and it will go away soon, so maybe that same thing is happening with your BOV, but that's just a guess.

The fluttering turkey sound is called "compression surge". You will find alot of information in the forums- check out the search area. The bottom nipple can be left open. Its an extra release valve for the BOV and does not need to be tapped. To adjust the BOV - turning the screw to the right will tighten the spring and loosening it will need to be turned to the left. This is the spring that controls how much boost requires the BOV to open. The harder it is set the more boost will require the spring to open, and the softer the spring is set the less boost will make the spring blow off.

You have to find the right setting for how much boost you are running and what your set-up is. If you tighten it down it takes more pressure to release. The pressure returning to the turbo causes the surge so you definately need to loosen it in order to stop the pressure returning to your turbo and release with less pressure in your pipes.

Hope this helps. I'm not sure if this is my first post or not, but I've had my dsm for over 8 years now, I've used the forum countless times, so thanks to all those who has replied with answers.

I just want to post my compressor surge fix to any one who's looking. Compressor surge could be from lack of vacuum to the bov when you release the gas pedal. I have a blitz bov and stock air sensor. Always vented to the atmosphere with no issues. However after I did a larson hose kit upgrade from RRE.

I hear surges at any psi, the higher the psi the worse the surging.
